Akram Bouras Scores as Levski Sofia Begin Bulgarian League Campaign with Victory
Akram Bouras has continued his impressive start to the new campaign by scoring as Levski Sofia opened their Bulgarian league season with a 2-1 victory over FK Dunav Ruse, just days before the club’s next UEFA Champions League qualifying fixture.
The Algerian midfielder found the net in the 70th minute to seal his side’s second goal, making a well-timed run into the penalty area before directing a cross into the net with a header.
His contribution helped Levski secure all three points in their opening league match and maintain positive momentum at the start of the season.
Bouras has enjoyed a productive beginning to the campaign after also scoring in Levski Sofia’s first pre-season friendly on 19 June.
His early performances have strengthened his role in the squad as the Bulgarian champions balance domestic commitments with European competition.
The midfielder has already featured in Levski’s UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign. After starting in the opening leg, he played his part as the Bulgarian side progressed past Bosnian club Borac Banja Luka. The tie finished 1-1 in the first meeting before Levski produced a commanding 4-0 victory in the return leg to book their place in the next round.
Attention now turns to another important European assignment, with Levski preparing to face Romanian side Union Craiova next Wednesday in the next stage of the Champions League qualifiers.
The club will head into that encounter with confidence following a successful start to the domestic season.
Their victory over FK Dunav Ruse provided an encouraging platform, while Bouras once again demonstrated his ability to contribute in attack from midfield.
His goal was another highlight in what has been an encouraging opening to the season for the former CR Belouizdad and MC Alger player.
Having already made an impact during pre-season and in European competition, Bouras is carrying that form into league action as Levski look to compete on multiple fronts.
With the Bulgarian champions continuing their Champions League journey while beginning the defence of their domestic title, Bouras’ early-season form could prove valuable as the demands of both competitions increase in the weeks ahead.
