Akpe Victory: Basel linked with move for Nigerian Zalaegerszeg defender

FC Basel are being linked with a move for teenage Nigerian centre-back Akpe Victory from Hungarian side Zalaegerszeg.

The 19-year-old defender, who stands at 1.95m, is reportedly on the radar of the Swiss Super League club, with Transfermarkt listing the probability of the deal only as “?” at this stage. Victory currently plays for Zalaegerszegi TE FC in Hungary’s top flight, the NB I, where he is registered with the number 55 shirt.

Victory, born in Abuja on 19 July 2006, is valued at €100k on the German-based data site, a figure that could tempt Basel as they seek relatively low-cost defensive reinforcements. The lack of publicly available information on his contract length and expiry at Zalaegerszeg has also fuelled speculation that he could become a free agent if his current deal is close to, or has already, run its course.

The young centre-back, listed primarily as a defender in the heart of the back line, has been developing his game in Hungary’s top tier rather than in one of Europe’s so‑called big five leagues. That pathway, however, has increasingly become a stepping stone for emerging African talents looking to move up the European ladder.

Recent data on Victory highlights his involvement for Zalaegerszeg in NB I fixtures in 2026, with his appearances helping to raise his profile beyond Hungary. While full match-by-match breakdowns are limited, his growing role in the first team has coincided with Basel’s reported interest.

With Basel traditionally active in the development and resale of young players, a move for a 19-year-old Nigerian centre-back with a modest €100k valuation would fit their model, and if a deal is completed, it could mark a significant step in Victory’s career, offering a higher-profile platform to enhance his reputation and realise his potential in European football.
