Akinkunmi Amoo close to a move to Thailand after a year without a club

Nigerian winger Akinkunmi Amoo is nearing a transfer to Thailand’s Ratchburi FC after spending the past year without a club.

The 23-year-old left Chinese side Ningbo FC at the turn of the year and is now reportedly ready to sign with the Thai outfit, according to Danish outlet Tipsbladet citing Ballthai.

This potential deal would mark Amoo’s fourth club since departing FC Copenhagen in September 2023. The winger originally joined FCK from Swedish club Hammarby in January 2022 but made just four appearances and scored one goal for the Danish champions.

Amoo’s career took a dramatic turn when he was convicted of rape, receiving a one-year prison sentence and a six-year ban from Denmark, along with court costs exceeding $15,542. He subsequently moved to Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia in September 2023, but his contract was terminated the following spring after only six matches.

After his brief stint in Cyprus, Amoo transferred to China before becoming unemployed. Now Ratchburi FC offers him a fresh start in Southeast Asian football. The move remains unofficial but appears imminent as both parties prepare to finalize the agreement.
