Ajax secure Nigeria striker Tolu Arokodare on loan from Wolves

Dutch football powerhouse Ajax Amsterdam have reportedly completed the loan signing of Nigerian international Tolu Arokodare from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The move gives the Super Eagles striker an opportunity to revive his career in the Eredivisie after enduring a challenging first season in England, where regular playing opportunities proved difficult to come by.

As per reports, Ajax have reached an agreement with Wolves for the temporary transfer of the 25-year-old, with the Amsterdam club agreeing to pay the striker’s full wages throughout the duration of the loan.

The deal also contains a non-mandatory purchase option worth €22 million, allowing Ajax to sign Arokodare permanently if he impresses during the 2026-27 campaign. However, the Dutch champions are under no obligation to activate the clause at the end of the season.

The transfer marks another important step in Ajax’s efforts to strengthen their attacking options as they prepare to compete on multiple fronts, including domestic and European competitions.

Arokodare only arrived at Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer after earning a move from Belgian Pro League outfit KRC Genk, where he established himself as one of the league’s most dangerous forwards with his physical presence, aerial ability and eye for goal.

Despite arriving at Molineux with high expectations, the Nigerian found opportunities difficult to come by during his maiden Premier League season.

He featured in 33 league matches for Wolves, but much of his involvement came from the bench, limiting his overall impact. The towering striker finished the campaign with three league goals and one assist as Wolves battled through a demanding domestic season.

While those numbers fell short of expectations, Ajax believe the former Genk frontman possesses the qualities needed to flourish in the Eredivisie, a league renowned for helping attacking players rediscover their best form.

The move also offers Arokodare the chance to play regular first-team football, something that could prove crucial as he looks to cement his place in Nigeria’s national team ahead of upcoming international competitions.

For Wolves, the loan provides an opportunity for the striker to gain valuable minutes while preserving the possibility of recouping a significant transfer fee should Ajax decide to exercise the €22 million purchase option.

With a fresh start in one of Europe’s most attack-minded leagues, Arokodare will now be hoping to rediscover the goalscoring form that earned him a move to the Premier League and prove he can become a key figure for Ajax in the season ahead.
