Ajax move to sign Tolu Arokodare permanently after impressive loan spell, Jordi Cruijff confirms
Ajax technical director Jordi Cruijff has confirmed the Dutch giants have already put arrangements in place to sign Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare permanently following his impressive start to life in Amsterdam.
The 25-year-old has quickly established himself as an important figure at the club since arriving on a season-long loan from English Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers, with his performances convincing Ajax to pursue a long-term agreement.
Arokodare has registered 13 goal contributions in 16 appearances across competitions, making an immediate impression with his attacking output and ability to fit into the team’s system.
His influence has strengthened Ajax’s desire to retain his services beyond the current campaign, with Cruijff revealing that the financial and contractual arrangements for a permanent move have already been addressed.
The Nigerian forward joined Ajax after a difficult spell for Wolves, but has responded positively to the opportunity in the Netherlands, rewarding the club’s decision to bring him in.
Cruijff reveals permanent transfer arrangements
Cruijff has indicated that Ajax do not anticipate major complications in securing Arokodare’s future, suggesting that the groundwork for a permanent transfer has already been completed.
Asked whether further negotiations with the striker and his representatives would be necessary to finalise the move, the technical director suggested that the key details had already been settled.
“I don’t think so. Everything has already been arranged, including the salary too,” Cruijff said.
His comments suggest Ajax have made significant progress towards turning the loan agreement into a permanent transfer, although the club is yet to formally announce the completion of the deal.
The development represents a major show of confidence in Arokodare, whose performances have made him an increasingly valuable member of the squad.
Ajax impressed by Arokodare’s mentality and impact
Beyond his contribution in front of goal, Cruijff has praised the striker’s attitude and ability to integrate into the team since his arrival.
Arokodare faced questions following his departure from Wolves, particularly because he was joining Ajax after the English club’s relegation.
However, the Nigerian has responded with consistent performances, earning the admiration of the club’s technical leadership.
“When we signed him, there was a lot of talk about the fact that we were getting him from a relegated team. He has settled in well, has a good mentality, and is a team player. We hope he just keeps going,” Cruijff added.
The technical director’s assessment highlights the qualities that have made Arokodare an important part of Ajax’s attacking plans.
His 13 goal contributions in 16 appearances underline the immediate impact he has made, while his adaptation to Dutch football has further strengthened the case for retaining him beyond his loan spell.
Arokodare has also enjoyed memorable moments in European competition, recently helping Ajax secure an emphatic victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
His performances have provided the Dutch side with an attacking threat and reinforced expectations surrounding his continued development.
Arokodare turns attention to Super Eagles duty
Before linking up with the Nigerian national team, Arokodare is expected to feature for Ajax in their Eredivisie encounter against Twente on Sunday.
The forward will then join the Super Eagles camp as Nigeria prepare for next weekend’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Tanzania.
His impressive club form could provide Nigeria with another attacking option as they pursue qualification for the continental tournament.
