Ajax hand Moroccan youngster Imran Talai first professional contract
Ajax Amsterdam have officially announced that Moroccan youth international Imran Talai has signed his first professional contract with the club, marking a major milestone in the 17-year-old’s development.
The promising midfielder has committed his future to the Dutch giants until June 30, 2029, after progressing through Ajax’s renowned youth system, where he has been since 2016. The club confirmed the agreement in a statement released on Tuesday.
Born in Amsterdam, Talai has risen steadily through the various age categories at Ajax, most recently featuring for the club’s Under-17 side during the previous season. His development has now earned him promotion to the Under-19 squad ahead of the new campaign, where he is expected to continue his progression toward senior football.
Ajax highlighted the signing as part of their long-term commitment to nurturing homegrown talent, with the club’s football director Maren Boecker offering strong praise for the teenager’s technical and physical attributes.
Boecker described Talai as a midfielder with strong technical ability, excellent ball control, and a powerful left foot, adding that his creativity and awareness set him apart in midfield areas. He also noted the player’s vision, ability to find space, and physical profile as key strengths that support his development trajectory.
Talai has also already gained international experience at youth level, having featured for Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations in the Under-17 category, further underlining his growing reputation on the international stage.
With a long-term contract now secured, Ajax will continue to carefully manage his development as he takes the next step in a pathway that has produced numerous elite-level talents over the years.
