Former Al Ahly forward Ahmed Yasser Rayan has openly criticised ex-head coach Pitso Mosimane, claiming the South African tactician played a key role in his departure from the Cairo giants.
Mosimane, who took charge of Al Ahly in 2020 after a successful stint with Mamelodi Sundowns, guided the club to multiple titles during his tenure.
However, Rayan believes his time at the club was negatively affected by the coach’s decisions.
Now playing for Bank El Ahly in the Egyptian Premier League, the 27-year-old striker—an Al Ahly academy graduate—cited limited playing time under Mosimane as the main reason for his exit.
Rather than featuring regularly for the record CAF Champions League winners, Rayan found himself loaned out to clubs including El Gouna, Ceramica Cleopatra, and Turkish side Altay SK.
“I received several offers during that period from Al-Ahly, Zamalek, and Pyramids, but things didn’t pan out with Ceramica Cleopatra,” Rayan said per Jarida.onl.
“I agreed to move to Zamalek because it is a big club and it is an honour for any player to wear its shirt.
“I felt so dizzy at that moment, I could see the goal moving in front of me,” he added.
