Ahmed Touba: Spartak Moscow monitor Panathinaikos’ Algeria-Belgium defender in potential free move

Algeria-Belgium centre-back Ahmed Touba of Panathinaikos is being linked with a summer switch to Spartak Moscow, with the Russian Premier Liga club monitoring the 28-year-old’s situation in Greece.

Touba, who holds both Algerian and Belgian nationality, is listed with a market value of €2.50m, but crucial details around his Panathinaikos contract – including its expiry date – are unclear, fuelling talk that he could become available as a free agent if no extension is agreed. The reported probability of a move remains unspecified (“?”), underlining that discussions are at a very early stage.

Born in Roubaix on 13 March 1998, the 1.90m left-footed defender has operated primarily as a centre-back for Panathinaikos in the Greek Super League 1, wearing the No 5 shirt. His current club status on Transfermarkt does not show a confirmed contract end date, which has encouraged speculation that Spartak could attempt either a low-fee deal or wait to pounce should his contract expire.

Recent performances have kept scouts interested, with Touba featuring in Panathinaikos’ latest Super League outing – a tight, hard-fought league match in which his defensive work again drew attention. The fixture, played this month against domestic opposition, ended with Panathinaikos involved in a narrow scoreline, and Touba delivering a typically solid, aerially dominant display at the back.

Touba’s career path has taken him from France and Belgium to Greece, and now potentially Russia’s top flight, where Spartak are looking to reinforce their back line with an experienced, physically strong defender entering what are traditionally peak years for a centre-half.

If a deal does materialise, a move to Spartak Moscow could offer Touba a fresh platform in a new league to consolidate his reputation and reshape the next phase of his career at the heart of a defence with European ambitions.
