Ahmed Shobier reveals dream move for son Mostafa
Former Al Ahly legend and current TV pundit Ahmed Shobier has revealed the club he once hoped his son, goalkeeper Mostafa Shobier, would join.
Mostafa, now Al Ahly and Egypt’s current shot-stopper, has been in strong form recently, earning more minutes under coach Jess Thorup as he rotates with Mohamed El Shenawy.
Reports indicate Thorup plans to rely on Mostafa in some upcoming Egyptian Premier League games to keep him sharp physically and mentally, with Al Ahly preparing for a huge CAF Champions League quarterfinal against Esperance in mid-March.
Recently, Mostafa has featured more in Africa, while El Shenawy has handled most league fixtures as the Danish coach continues his rotation policy until settling on a long-term first choice.
During a studio appearance analysing a Serie A match, Ahmed Shobier admitted he once wished to see his son play for English giants Manchester United. He pointed to the club’s struggles in finding a consistent goalkeeper since the eras of Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar, and David de Gea.
Manchester United currently sits fifth in the Premier League with 45 points and has a crucial game in hand against Everton in round 27.
