Ahmed Sami’s first match ends in defeat as Suez Petrojet beat Egyptian Premier League rivals

Suez Petrojet claimed their first win of the season by beating المصري 2-1 in Ahmed Sami’s opening match as the club’s new manager.

The fourth-round Egyptian Premier League fixture was played at New Suez Stadium, where goals from Mostafa El Badry and Ahmed Bahbah secured victory for the home side.

Salah Mohsen scored from the penalty spot for المصري, but his equaliser lasted only a minute before Bahbah restored Suez Petrojet’s lead.

The result lifted Suez Petrojet to four points and 12th place in the table. المصري remain on six points in eighth.

The match was Sami’s first in charge of المصري since he replaced Emad El Nahhas as manager.

Early advantage for Suez Petrojet

Suez Petrojet took the lead after only six minutes following a serious error by المصري goalkeeper Mohamed Ahmed Seha.

Seha came out of his goal but failed to deal with the situation, allowing Mostafa El Badry to take possession and finish into an unguarded net.

المصري almost responded immediately when Kheir El Din Tawal was presented with a clear opportunity in front of goal, but he was unable to convert.

The home side then went close to doubling their advantage through Bahbah. The striker produced a fine run before attempting to finish, but Seha recovered well to make the save.

Seha was making his first start in goal for المصري, while Bahbah led the line for Suez Petrojet.

Bahbah restores home side’s lead

المصري were awarded a penalty five minutes into the second half after Mohamed El Shamy was brought down.

Mohsen made no mistake from the spot, sending the ball into the net to level the score and register his first goal of the season.

The visitors’ equaliser did not last long. Just one minute later, Bahbah put Suez Petrojet back in front.

Mohamed Dodo nodded the ball forward, and Bahbah followed up with a first-time finish to beat Seha and make it 2-1.

المصري continued to look for another equaliser, but their chances were limited. Abdel Rahim Deghmoum missed an opportunity in the 75th minute when he fired wide after receiving a back-heel pass from Ali Soliman.

Suez Petrojet goalkeeper Omar Salah was then called into action four minutes later, making an important save from a one-on-one effort by Abdullah Zayani to preserve his side’s advantage.

The Suez Petrojet defence held firm for the remainder of the match, securing the home team’s first victory of the campaign.
