Ahmed Mostafa Zizo has officially joined Al Ahly, completing one of the most shocking and divisive transfers in recent Egyptian football history.

The winger’s switch from Zamalek to their bitter rivals left fans stunned, especially after his long-standing role as a fan favorite and key figure in the White Castle’s success. Tensions rose sharply when Zamalek supporters saw his images removed from youth facilities and heard chants against him from the very stands that once celebrated him.

Zizo, who refused to renew his contract over salary issues, brought his Zamalek chapter to a close after joining in 2019 from Portugal’s Moreirense. He scored 87 goals in 258 appearances, becoming the club’s sixth-highest scorer and winning eight major trophies, including two league titles and two African Confederation Cups.

Despite initially denying reports of any deal, Zizo later applied for a U.S. visa, a move linked to Al Ahly’s Club World Cup plans. Club legend Hazem Imam expressed disappointment, saying Zizo misled him about his intentions. Now, all eyes are on Zizo to deliver in red.
