Ahmed Hossam Mido has clarified his controversial remarks about Al Ahly players, saying his words were misunderstood and misrepresented.
Speaking as a member of Zamalek’s planning committee, Mido said he never intended to insult or belittle the Red Fort squad during the Club World Cup.
“Everyone knows my appreciation for Al Ahly players, fans and sons despite my strong Zamalkawiya,” Mido said during a televised appearance.
He insisted that some people intentionally cut his statements to make it seem like he had disrespected the players.
He explained that his point was about the team’s failure to apply the basics of football in certain moments, not a lack of football knowledge.
Mido also revealed that Al Ahly’s media team cleverly turned his words into fuel to push the players ahead of their big clash with Porto.
His initial comments came after Al Ahly’s disappointing performance against Palmeiras, which led to a wave of backlash from their fanbase.
Despite the noise, Mido stands firm that his intention was not to downplay the efforts of the country’s top players.
