Ahmed Hassan fires back at critics before Egypt clash with UAE

Ahmed Hassan, director of Egypt’s national team at the Arab Cup, expressed full satisfaction with the Pharaohs’ display in the 1-1 draw against Kuwait, despite criticism on social media and from some former players.

He stressed that Kuwait are not a weak opponent and believes Egypt could have been two goals up by half-time given the chances created.

Hassan said the team understands that some people “are just looking for a trend” but insisted the staff accept all opinions, even from those who may not like certain members of the coaching team. He called on critics to look at the statistics from the Kuwait match, pointing out Egypt’s clear superiority in possession and opportunities, and promised improvement against the UAE.

He also denied rumours of disciplinary chaos, insisting the camp is stable and united, and dismissed talk of striker Mohamed Sherif being sent home after reacting badly to his substitution.

Hassan explained that Sherif quickly spoke with coach Helmi Toulan, kissed his head, and described him as a father figure, confirming there is no rift.

Hassan further clarified the story around goalkeeper coach Essam El Hadary and Amr El Solia’s penalty, stating that El Hadary was only relaying Toulan’s instructions for Marwan Hamdi to take the second spot-kick. He said El Solia accepted the decision, while Afsha eventually insisted on taking the penalty and scored, and that some people “hate El Hadary” and are trying to invent a crisis around him.
