Ahmed Ghoneim: Egyptian right-back joins El Gouna from Petrojet
Egyptian defender Ahmed Ghoneim has joined El Gouna from Petrojet, with the 27-year-old right-back completing a move between the two Premier League clubs. The transfer sees El Gouna add a domestic, experienced option on the right side of their defence as they shape their squad for the new campaign.
Ghoneim, who prefers to operate at right-back, arrives at El Gouna after a spell with Petrojet in which he established himself in top-flight football. He had moved to Petrojet from Ittihad Alexandria on a free transfer in September 2024 and now makes the switch to his fourth senior club.
The Cairo-born defender has accumulated appearances across the Premier League, Egyptian League Cup, Egypt Cup and both relegation and championship play-offs, gaining experience in a range of high-pressure domestic fixtures. Across those competitions he has featured more than 30 times, including 21 outings in the league, underlining his readiness for regular first-team involvement.
Ghoneim’s market value was recently assessed at around €100,000, reflecting his status as a solid, established option in the Egyptian top flight rather than a developmental prospect. His move also continues a steady career path that began with Smouha SC’s youth ranks before steps up with Sporting and then Ittihad Alexandria.
El Gouna have not disclosed contract details but have confirmed that Ghoneim’s registration is complete, with the Egyptian right-back now part of their Premier League squad for the 2026-27 season.
