Ahmed Abu Muslim, a beloved figure in Al Ahly’s history, has voiced his frustration over the club’s difficult start to the season.
For the former left-back, the problems go deeper than results. He believes the Red Devils made a mistake in their coaching choice.
Al Ahly have managed only one win from their opening three Egyptian Premier League matches, drawing with Modern Sport and Ghazl El Mahalla. Fans expected more after the summer signings, but Abu Muslim insists the coach is the main issue.
“I demand his immediate departure,” Abu Muslim told Kooora, stressing that Jose Riveiro is not suited for Al Ahly’s unique pressures. He pointed out that Riveiro failed to show authority after Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” defied penalty orders in the Club World Cup, a moment that should have set the tone for discipline.
The former defender also criticized Riveiro’s handling of young left-back Mohamed Shukry, while calling for Karim El-Debbis to return from loan. Though he sees promise in most of the foreign players, Abu Muslim admitted he has doubts about striker Nets Gradiscar’s ability to lead the attack.
