CAF President Ahmad Denied Visa for FIFA Council Meeting in Miami
The upcoming FIFA Council meeting on March 15 in Miami, USA, will take place without Ahmad Ahmad, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The Malagasy official, who also serves as FIFA vice-president, has been denied a U.S. visa and will therefore remain in Cairo.
CAF confirmed the news on Tuesday, noting that this is one of the rare occasions a senior football official has been unable to attend a FIFA meeting due to visa issues.
Ahmad is not the only high-profile official affected. Alexei Sorokin of Russia and Sheikh Salman, president of the Asian Football Confederation, are also prevented from attending for similar administrative reasons.
In contrast, Congolese vice-president Constant Omari confirmed that he will be traveling to Miami, sharing the news on social media.
The absence of several influential officials is expected to shape discussions at the FIFA Council, highlighting ongoing logistical and political challenges that can affect global football governance.
