Here’s a recap of the weekend’s African performances in the top European leagues:
Italy (Serie A):
- Roma bounced back from a previous defeat to Juventus with a commanding 4-0 win against Genoa. Moroccan defender Mehdi Benatia continued his impressive form, scoring his 5th goal of the season, making him Roma’s top scorer.
England (Premier League – J20):
- Emmanuel Adebayor, although not scoring, played a decisive role for Tottenham by providing the assist for Eriksen’s goal in their 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace. Jermaine Defoe added another goal for Tottenham.
Spain (La Liga – D19):
- Granada celebrated a resounding 4-0 victory against Real Valladolid, with Moroccan striker Youssef El Arabi sealing the win by scoring the 4th goal.
France (Ligue 1 – D20):
- Ghanaian striker Majeed Waris, on loan to Valenciennes, had an impressive debut in France by scoring VA’s third goal against Bastia (3-2).
- Ivorian N’Dri Romaric’s efforts for Bastia were in vain, as his goal only served to reduce the deficit.
- Senegalese player Modou Sougou opened the scoring for Evian Thonon Gaillard against Marseille but couldn’t secure a win, as they were defeated 1-2.
- Odair Fortès, from Cape Verde, scored for Reims in their victory against Lille.
France (Ligue 1 – D20):
- Guinean player Ismaël Bangoura, coming in as a substitute in the 80th minute, scored the only goal for Nantes in their 1-0 victory over Lorient, marking their return to success after three consecutive defeats.
