Samuel Eto’o has raised serious concerns over the handling of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations decision, openly challenging the credibility of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following its move to award the title to Morocco.

The CAF ruling, announced on Tuesday, saw Senegal stripped of the trophy despite their 1-0 victory over Morocco in the final played in Rabat on January 18.

The match had been marred by controversy after Senegal’s temporary withdrawal in protest of a late penalty decision.

In a dramatic turn, CAF later revisited the case and ruled in favour of Morocco, awarding them a 3-0 victory and the continental title after accepting an appeal.

The decision has triggered mixed reactions across the football world, with some backing the enforcement of regulations, while others have questioned the process and its implications for the integrity of African football governance.

Eto’o, who serves as president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, made his stance clear in correspondence addressed to fellow federation leaders, as reported by L’Equipe. His message reflected deep unease about the broader consequences of the ruling.

“How can we restore the confidence of African fans in the Confederation of African Football? How can we reaffirm our legitimacy without further weakening our institution?” he questioned.

His remarks underline growing concern among key figures within the African football community, as the fallout from the decision continues to unfold.

Meanwhile, CAF maintains that its ruling aligns with the regulations.
