African influence strengthens in UAFA as Morocco lands 2027 Arab Women’s Cup

The Union of Arab Football Associations (UAFA) has reinforced African presence in its leadership and competitions, following the 28th General Assembly held on Monday, September 15, 2025, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal was re-elected President of UAFA, while Egyptian football administrator Hani Abou Rida retained his role as Vice President.

Morocco’s Fouzi Lekjaa, Mauritania’s Ahmed Yahya, and Sudan’s Dr. Moatasem Jaafar also secured their places on the UAFA Council.

With four of the eight executive seats occupied by Africans, the continent now holds equal representation with Asia in the decision-making body.

Africa also gained key hosting rights. Morocco was officially named host of the 2027 Arab Women’s Cup, which will run from September 2–18.

The event will gather women’s national teams from across the Arab world, furthering the visibility and growth of the women’s game.

This continues Morocco’s growing football portfolio, which already includes co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.

Mauritania, meanwhile, was awarded hosting rights for the Arab Beach Soccer Cup in both 2027 and 2029, further highlighting Africa’s rising role in UAFA events.

The Arab Women’s Cup, first staged in 2006, has only seen three editions to date, with Algeria, Jordan, and Tunisia among past winners.

Morocco’s turn as host is expected to elevate the tournament’s profile and add momentum to women’s football development across Africa and the Arab world.

With leadership influence secured and hosting rights expanding, African football has emerged as a decisive force within UAFA’s future.
