Mohamed Abou Trika, the Egyptian midfield strategist, has displayed a fair play attitude by expressing his hope for Tunisian player Youssef Msakni to win the title of “best African player playing on the continent.” Despite being nominated alongside Msakni for the award, Abou Trika stated in an interview with the official website of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) that if he is not nominated, he would like Msakni to win.
Abou Trika acknowledged that the past year had not been very convincing for him, but he found the nomination surprising and expressed his pride in being considered. He recognized that it was a special year for him, marked by sadness, and being nominated was a significant accomplishment. He highlighted the importance of being consistently present, especially considering his age, as many players retire at his stage in their careers.
The competition for the title of the best African player playing on the continent includes Mohamed Abou Trika, Youssef Msakni, Yannick Ndjeng, Rainford Kalaba, and Stoppila Sunzu. The winner will be announced during the traditional CAF Awards gala on December 20 in Accra. The positive and sportsmanlike sentiments expressed by Abou Trika contribute to the camaraderie among African players despite the competitive nature of the awards.
