Dr Alfred Opimbat 300x234 1
Dr. Léon Alfred Opimbat, the Congolese Minister of Sports and Physical Education, provided updates on the preparations for the 11th African Youth Games during the ordinary congress of AIPS-AFRICA in Dakar. He announced that all infrastructure for the games will be delivered five months before the event, in March 2015.

Opimbat emphasized the significance of the games in providing a platform for young African athletes to showcase their talents and prepare for the 2016 Olympics. Additionally, hosting the games aims to foster a new sporting awareness in Congo and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the African Games held in Brazzaville in 1965.

Regarding preparations, Opimbat reassured that progress is on track, with infrastructure expected to be 50% complete by March 2015. The main project includes an ultra-modern sports complex located in the east of the city. Logistics and weather considerations have been taken into account, with the games scheduled for July 2015.

Opimbat highlighted that the games’ objective is to enable athletes to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games. The Congolese government is committed to providing regular updates on the progress of the work, with an overall budget of around 80 billion FCFA allocated for sports infrastructure.
