Accra, the capital of Ghana, is set to host nearly one hundred African women sports journalists for the inaugural Africa Women’s Sports Summit.
The initiative, led by Ghanaian sports journalist Juliet Bawuah, formerly of Africanews, aims to create a platform for female sports journalists across the continent to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another.
Under the theme “Take Your Place” or “Seize Your Opportunity,” the summit will feature several high-profile panelists, including South Africa’s Carol Tsabalala (Supersport), Uganda’s Usher Komigusha (Supersport), and Ghanaians Nana Aba Anamoah and Eva Okyere. They will discuss their professional journeys, the challenges women face in sports media, and strategies to support the next generation of female journalists.
Scheduled for May 15, the Africa Women’s Sports Summit has received support from FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura, underscoring the importance of empowering women in sports journalism across Africa.
