The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2024 is set to kick off in Ivory Coast, hosting 24 participating teams.
The combined market value of these teams has soared to over €2.69 billion, with the Moroccan national team leading the charts at a total market value of €347.40 million.
Commencing on Saturday, the new edition of AFCON will unfold its matches until February 11th, featuring intense competition among 24 teams divided into six groups.
According to “Transfermarkt,” a specialized platform in player and team market values, the total market value of the 24 participating teams in the tournament reached €2.69 billion, following the official announcement of the squads.
Topping the list of market values among the participating teams is the Moroccan national team, boasting a total market value of €347.40 million.
They outshine the Nigerian team, which slipped to second place earlier this month with a value of €335 million after previously leading the rankings.
The Moroccan team, ranked fourth in the last FIFA World Cup in 2022, aspires to secure its second Africa Cup of Nations title, having previously won in 1976 in Ethiopia.
The top 10 teams in terms of market value in the tournament include only three Arab teams out of the total five participating, namely Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia, and Mauritania.
Following the leading Moroccan team is Algeria in sixth place with a total market value of €190.45 million, Egypt in ninth place with €135.60 million, Tunisia in thirteenth place with €62.80 million, and Mauritania in twenty-first place with a market value of €12.38 million.
