Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying: Senegal held by Mozambique at half-time

Senegal were held to a 1-1 draw by Mozambique at half-time in their opening Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying match in Group J.

Senegal controlled much of the first 45 minutes, enjoying 63% possession and creating the pressure that led to the opening goal in the 32nd minute. Nicolas Jackson finished the move after being set up by Abdallah Sima.

The visitors appeared set to take their lead into the break, but Mozambique found an equaliser in added time. Geny Catamo restored parity in the second minute of stoppage time, leaving the two sides level at the interval.

Mozambique also picked up two yellow cards during a competitive opening period.

Both teams will be looking for a decisive second-half performance as they seek to secure points and make a positive start to their Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying campaign.
