The African Football Journalists Association (AFOJA) has expressed profound sorrow and grief following the tragic incident in Nigeria, where seven crew members from SuperSport were abducted while en route to cover the AFCON qualifier between Nigeria and Libya in Uyo on October 11.

Among the abducted crew, one individual was fatally shot, adding further tragedy to an already devastating situation.

In a statement signed by AFOJA Executive Secretary Nuhu Adams, the association decried this senseless act of violence, emphasizing the vulnerability of journalists and media professionals in high-risk areas.

The incident is a stark reminder of the dangers faced by those who work tirelessly to bring the excitement and passion of football to audiences across the continent.

AFOJA called on the authorities in countries like Nigeria to take urgent steps to ensure the safety and security of media professionals in the discharge of their duties.

The association extended its deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased, recognizing the immense loss they have suffered.

“No words can explain or justify what has happened,” the statement read, as AFOJA expressed hope for peace for the victim’s soul.”

This heartbreaking event highlights the need for better protection and support for those who contribute to the world of sports media.

In an exclusive interview, the Togo international said he has a point to prove this term after struggling for game time under former coach Thierry Froger. “I feel good compared to last year when I played very little and the coach had very little confidence in me,” the 28-year-old told AfricaSoccer.com. “Today, I have all the cards in hand to prove my talent. It was up to me to show him and everyone else that I was better than that.” Amewou believes new manager Victor Zvunka, who returned

Contract clause could block South Africa star Percy Tau’s potential move to Zamalek

Percy Tau’s hopes of returning to Egyptian football could be in jeopardy due to a clause in his current contract with Qatari side Qatar SC. The South African forward joined Qatar SC in January 2025 on a six-month deal following his departure from Egyptian giants Al Ahly, where he spent three-and-a-half years and helped the club secure multiple titles. Tau’s 2024/25 campaign came to an end on Sunday after Qatar SC suffered a 1-0 defeat to Al Ahli in the Emir Cup, finishing a disappointing 10th in the 12-team Qatar Stars League. Tanzania’s U-20 head coach, Boniface Mkwasa, has raised serious concerns over alleged age cheating by Sierra Leone during the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. The accusation came after Tanzania narrowly lost 1-0 to Sierra Leone in their second group match at the Suez Canal Stadium. Mkwasa expressed doubts about the age eligibility of some Sierra Leone players, suggesting they may be older than the tournament permits. “Even this team, Sierra Leone, if you see them, they are a bit bigger and age-wise, it’s not under 20 if you see,” Mkwasa said.
