Tense Atmosphere Reported Before Kickoff
Hours before the match, the atmosphere in parts of Conakry was already unstable:
According to Afriquezoom.com, areas like the Nongo Tady intersection had been overtaken by zealous supporters playing music and blocking traffic.
At one point, when the national anthem was played, roads were completely blocked, and motorists were forcibly made to stop, showing the volatile mix of passion and disorder.
A local journalist warned earlier in the day:
“When the Syli plays, it’s a problem because, whether they win or not, the fans get carried away by their passion.”
😔 A Nation in Shock
What should have been a moment of national pride and unity has turned into a scene of horror and loss. The celebration of Guinea’s strong performance has been marred by senseless violence.
Local authorities have yet to release a full official statement, and the exact motive and identity of those responsible remain unclear.
