AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Tarek Soliman to lead Egypt against Malawi as Hossam Hassan serves suspension
Tarek Soliman is expected to take charge of the Egypt national team for their double-header against Malawi in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Egypt will face Malawi in the third and fourth rounds of the qualifying campaign, with the first leg scheduled for Cairo on November 13 before the return fixture in Malawi four days later.
According to a report by an Egyptian portal, Yalla Kora, Soliman will oversee the team in both matches in the absence of head coach Hossam Hassan.
The report indicates that Soliman is currently working towards obtaining his CAF A coaching licence, a requirement that would allow him to lead the team from the technical area during the fixtures.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to approve his appointment following the steps taken to secure the necessary coaching qualification.
Hassan will miss both encounters after being handed a suspension by FIFA.
Egypt will be aiming to secure maximum points from the two matches as they seek to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the 2027 AFCON, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
The Pharaohs have collected four points from their opening two qualifying matches, having drawn 0-0 with Angola before recording an emphatic 5-0 victory over South Sudan.
