AFCON 2027 qualifiers: Moses Usor hails dream Super Eagles debut after Madagascar winner

Moses Usor described his Super Eagles debut as a dream moment after scoring the winning goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo on Friday.

The forward came off the bench to make his first appearance for Nigeria and needed only four minutes to make a decisive impact.

Usor replaced Samuel Chukwueze in the 61st minute, with the Super Eagles still level after fighting back from an early deficit.

Debut goal seals Nigeria comeback

Madagascar had taken a surprise lead in the 16th minute through Kari Eshan, putting Nigeria under pressure as they struggled to find a response.

George Ilenikhena restored parity shortly before half-time, giving the Super Eagles renewed momentum heading into the second half.

Usor then completed the turnaround in the 65th minute, producing a composed finish to give Nigeria a 2-1 lead.

His goal proved decisive as the Super Eagles held on to begin their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign with three points.

The performance gave Usor an immediate introduction to international football, with his short cameo ultimately producing the match-winning contribution.

Usor grateful for Super Eagles opportunity

Following the victory, Usor took to social media to reflect on a memorable first appearance for the national team.

The attacker thanked the coaching staff, his teammates and the supporters for the backing he received on a night that delivered a landmark moment in his career.

“What a moment! Grateful for my scoring debut and for the trust and support from the coaching staff, my teammates, and the fans. This one means a lot!” Usor wrote on Instagram.

Usor’s goal also capped a strong response from Nigeria after Madagascar had threatened to derail their qualifying campaign with their early opener.

The Super Eagles will now take confidence from the comeback victory as they continue their pursuit of qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
