AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Mohammed Kudus’ absence will affect Ghana against Ivory Coast – Former Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor

Togo legend Emmanuel Adebayor believes Ghana will face a much tougher challenge against Ivory Coast after Mohammed Kudus withdrew from the Black Stars squad ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Kudus had initially been included in Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man squad for Ghana’s opening Group C fixtures but pulled out on Sunday to continue his recovery after spending months on the sidelines.

The 25-year-old Tottenham Hotspur forward has been replaced by Derby County striker Mohammed Fuseini.

Speaking to 3Sports, former Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham striker Adebayor said Kudus’ experience and composure would be a significant loss against the reigning African champions.

“There is no game without an experienced player; it will be hard,” Adebayor said.

“Kudus would have brought confidence into the team. But with the youngsters, trust me, it will be difficult.

“Ivory Coast against Ghana, you need some players who can bring cool heads.”

Ghana begin their qualifying campaign away to Ivory Coast at the Stade de la Paix on 24 September before hosting Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later.

Queiroz’s side will then round off the international window with a friendly against Morocco at the Grand Stade de Tanger on 4 October.
