AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: Gambia players need no motivation to represent their country against Ghana – Abdou Jammeh 

Gambia assistant coach Abdou Jammeh says the opportunity to represent their country provides enough motivation for his players ahead of Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ghana.

The Scorpions will enter the Group C fixture with confidence after beating Somalia 2-1 in their opening match, while Ghana are looking to recover from a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire.

With the match carrying significant importance for both teams, Jammeh believes his players understand what is required of them without needing additional motivation from the coaching staff.

“Yeah, playing for the national team or representing your country is the only motivation. We don’t need to motivate any of our players,” he said.

He added that the players are fully aware of the responsibility that comes with playing for Gambia and are focused on producing a positive result in Accra.

“They are only motivated by representing the country. So, I think everybody knows the task ahead. We are focused on delivering the best result we can have tomorrow,” Jammeh said.

Gambia currently share top spot in Group C with Côte d’Ivoire, while Ghana are bottom following their opening defeat.

The Scorpions will therefore be seeking another positive result to strengthen their position, while Ghana need a victory to prevent further pressure on their qualification campaign.

The match at the Accra Sports Stadium kicks off at 4pm GMT on Tuesday.
