Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi will announce his squad for the Atlas Lions’ opening Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifiers against Gabon and Lesotho on Thursday, 17 September.

Ouahbi is scheduled to name his players during a press conference at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, with the event set to begin at 11:00 GMT.

The squad announcement will be the first major step towards Morocco’s Group A campaign as the North African side prepares for two qualifiers during the September international window.

Morocco open campaign against Gabon

Morocco will host Gabon in their opening Group A fixture on Friday, 25 September.

The match will be played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, giving the Atlas Lions home advantage as they begin their bid to qualify for the 2027 AFCON finals.

Ouahbi will be hoping his team can make a strong start against the Gabonese side before turning their attention to their second qualifier.

Atlas Lions face Lesotho four days later

Morocco will then travel to South Africa to take on Lesotho on Tuesday, 29 September.

The fixture will be played in Bloemfontein, where the Atlas Lions will look to build on their opening result and strengthen their position in Group A.

The two matches will give Ouahbi an opportunity to assess his options and continue shaping the Morocco squad as he begins another phase of his tenure with the national team.

With the squad announcement now only days away, attention will focus on the players selected for the September qualifiers and whether there will be changes to the group that will represent one of Africa’s leading football nations.

Morocco will be aiming for a positive start as they begin their pursuit of qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
