South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has made it clear that his side will not build their tactical approach solely around containing Mohamed Salah when they face Egypt at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking ahead of the Group B encounter, the Belgian manager dismissed suggestions that stopping the Liverpool forward would define the game, stressing the importance of a collective strategy.
“It would be a mistake to focus on just one player. The collective effort is what matters,” he stressed.
He added, “We are not preparing for a match against one player, but against Egypt.”
The former Cameroon coach also reflected positively on South Africa’s start to the tournament, highlighting how victory in their opening fixture has shaped preparations for the high-profile clash.
“It was crucial to win the first match to approach the game against Egypt without pressure,” he said.
The Group B meeting between the Pharaohs and Bafana Bafana is scheduled for Friday, December 26, at the Grand Stade d’Agadir, with kickoff set for 3 pm.
