Senegal coach Pape Thiaw has commended his squad after their hard-fought 1-0 win over Egypt in the semifinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), while emphasizing the need to stay focused ahead of the final.
The Lions of Teranga secured their spot in the championship match at Tangier Grand Stadium on Wednesday thanks to a decisive second-half strike from Sadio Mane in a tightly contested encounter.
“We are very, very happy to have reached the final. It was not easy against a good side like Egypt,” Thiaw said after the game.
“My players were determined to win the match, and their determination showed on the pitch.
“I pay tribute to Egypt as they played well and gave us a very good match. Now we will focus on preparing for the final and will apply ourselves to it,” he added.
Senegal will take on the winner of Sunday’s other semifinal between Nigeria and Morocco at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
