Morocco coach Walid Regragui has urged his team to stay grounded after guiding the Atlas Lions into the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The hosts secured a convincing 2-0 quarter-final win over Cameroon on Friday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, with Brahim Díaz and Ismael Saibari scoring in each half to book Morocco’s place in the last four.
After the match, Regragui singled out Díaz for his standout performances but emphasized the importance of humility and respect for all opponents.
“Brahim Díaz is a special player, and I congratulate him for his performances,” he said.
“We must remain humble because every team wants to beat us, and we must respect all our opponents.
“Since 2004, Morocco had not reached the semi-finals, and now we are aiming to write history,” Regragui added.
Morocco’s progress to the semifinals marks the nation’s first appearance at this stage since 2004, and Regragui insists the team is focused on making history.
The Atlas Lions will meet the winner of Saturday’s Nigeria vs. Algeria quarter-final clash in the semifinals.
