Cameroon forward Brian Mbomo admits the Indomitable Lions are fully aware of the challenge that lies ahead as they prepare to face hosts Morocco in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The highly anticipated clash is scheduled for Friday, January 9, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where Cameroon will take on an Atlas Lions side buoyed by home support and tournament expectations.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Mbomo described the fixture as an “early final,” highlighting the quality within the Moroccan squad and the added pressure of playing against a host nation in front of its supporters.
“We know that (Morocco) is a team with a lot of quality, and they are playing on their home ground, so we know what awaits us against them, and I think the match will be beautiful.”
The quarterfinal carries personal significance for the Cameroon attacker, who will come up against Manchester United teammate Noussair Mazraoui.
The pair are used to lining up together in European competitions, but on Friday night, club camaraderie will be set aside as they go head-to-head in a high-stakes continental showdown.
