Egypt coach Hossam Hassan expressed satisfaction after guiding his side to a 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe in their 2025 AFCON Group B opener.
The Pharaohs, Africa’s most decorated national team, faced a stern test on Monday night, with Hassan admitting the match was tougher than expected after his players missed several clear-cut chances.
“What happened was a lesson for the Egyptian national team players, and I told them that the tournament is not easy at all, and what I imagined happened, and we could have prevented conceding a goal from Zimbabwe.”
Despite the hiccups, Hassan stressed the importance of maintaining focus throughout the competition.
“The Zimbabwean team increased their confidence in their abilities after scoring the opening goal, and the truth is that the Egyptian team wasted many opportunities that could have resulted in a resounding victory.”
With both Egypt and South Africa level at the top of Group B, the Pharaohs now turn their attention to Friday’s clash against the South Africans in the second round.
