Egypt defender Ahmed Aboul-Fetouh is seeking for a revenge when his outfit takes on Senegal in the semifinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Pharaohs defeated Ivory Coast 3-2 in the quarterfinals clash on Saturday at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir, setting up a tricky encounter against Senegal at the continental showpiece.
It promises to be a thrilling clash, as both teams will be yearning for victory to secure a place in the finals of the tournament, being held in Morocco.
The match between Egypt and Senegal is a repeat of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations final in Cameroon, where the Taranga Lions triumphed over the Pharaohs to clinch their first AFCON title.
Besides, the Taranga Lions prevented the North African country from securing a spot in the upcoming 2022 World Cup tournament in Qatar.
And according to Aboul-Fetouh, his outfit will approach the game with the mentality of avenging the setbacks against Senegal.
“All African teams have become strong, but we, the Egyptian national team, have 7 titles and we came here to win the eighth.”
“Of course we have a score to settle with Senegal. They prevented us from reaching the World Cup and won the African title ahead of us, so we want to beat them.”
Egypt last won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2010, defeating Ghana 1-0 to annex their seventh title on the continent.
