South Africa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has explained his outfit elimination from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.

The Bafana Bafana painfully excited the continental showpiece on Sunday night after falling short to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 2-1 in the round of 16 clash.

Junior Tchamadeu and Christian Kofane scored in the first half for the Indomitable Lions, while Evidence Makgopa scored to reduce the deficit for the Bafana Bafana in a high-stake clash.

According to Williams, his outfit could not reach their peak before the commencement of the tournament, leading to their elimination from the continental showpiece.

“We are very disappointed because we had high expectations of ourselves coming into this tournament, but for some reason we haven’t hit our peak, and we only showed the best of ourselves in patches,” Williams said.

“We have been known to be very solid as a team, because we have kept a lot of clean sheets over the last few years, but now when you see the amount of goals we conceded in this AFCON, it is a concern.”

Having being eliminated from the AFCON, the Bafana Bafana will turn their attention to the 2026 World Cup tournament to be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
