Egypt midfielder Trezeguet has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Pharaohs’ players and technical team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting the squad is fully focused on securing victory against Nigeria in Saturday’s third-place playoff.
Egypt are scheduled to face Nigeria on Saturday, January 17, in the match to decide third place at the tournament.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Trezeguet reflected on Egypt’s semi-final disappointment while praising the collective effort of the team.
“Everyone did their best and spared no effort, but that’s football,” he said.
The forward added, “We were playing to win the title, which was our goal from the beginning of the tournament. The coaching staff, led by Hossam Hassan, performed their role perfectly, and everyone did their best. We did our utmost, but luck was not on our side.”
Looking ahead to the clash with Nigeria, the winger acknowledged the strength of the Super Eagles but remained confident in Egypt’s readiness.
“The Nigerian national team is a strong team and includes great players, but we are ready to win,” he noted.
Trezeguet concluded by noting that the players had given everything since the start of the training camp on December 3, stressing that the shared objective from the outset had been to lift the trophy. He thanked his teammates for their commitment before and during the tournament.
Egypt were eliminated in the semi-finals following a 1-0 defeat to Senegal, while Nigeria bowed out after losing to hosts Morocco on penalties.
The battle for the bronze medal will kick off at 19:00GMT.
