Morocco midfielder Neil El Aynaoui has disclosed that they are approaching their quarter-final clash against Cameroon at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a lot of focus.
The Atlas Lions will take on the Indomitable Lions in the last eight stage of the tournament on Friday, January 9, to fight for a place in the semi-finals.
Speaking in a pre-match interview, El Aynaoui indicated that Morocco are prepared and expects to face a tough test from Cameroon.
“Things are going well. All matches are difficult in the Africa Cup of Nations, and we knew that even before the competition started. We are trying to be positive, to stay focused, and to work well every day,” the midfielder said.
He continued, ” Things are going very well with the coach, honestly he is at the top. He has really succeeded in building a group, and he is very precise in what he wants. We are working well in training and we hope that things will go well.”
Neil El Aynaoui further disclosed that Morocco have prepared for every scenario, including a possible penalty shootout in case the quarter-final clash goes the distance without a winner.
“Of course. Since the round of 16, we have been mentally preparing for this. We have also practised it in training sessions and implemented some scenarios, so we are ready if we have to go to a penalty shootout,” he said.
The quarter-final clash between Cameroon and Morocco will kick off at 19:00gmt.
