Egypt forward Mahmoud Trezeguet is confident the Pharaohs have the quality required to overcome Senegal ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations semifinal showdown.
The seven-time champions will take on the Teranga Lions at the Tangier Grand Stadium on Friday, with kickoff set for 17:00 GMT, in a highly anticipated clash between two of Africa’s football powerhouses.
While acknowledging the strength and pedigree of Pape Thiaw’s Senegal side, Trezeguet insists Egypt possess enough firepower and tactical options to tilt the contest in their favour.
“Senegal are indeed a very strong team. We have faced them several times, and they have many strengths, as well as players of the very highest level,” the Al Ahly forward told CAF Media.
“But we also have our own qualities, players with ability and several ways to make a difference. We are capable of winning this match,” he added.
Trezeguet stressed that composure and efficiency in front of goal will be crucial at this stage of the competition, where clear-cut chances are often limited.
“Efficiency in front of goal, because chances are rare at this stage. But also, concentration from the first minute to the last. The experience of certain players in matches like this can also weigh heavily.”
The winner of the encounter will book a place in the AFCON final and face either hosts Morocco or Nigeria as the battle for continental supremacy intensifies.
