Algeria midfielder Fares Chaibi is confident his outfit will overcome the obstacle of DR Congo despite the difficulty of the task at 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The North African football heavyweights will lock horns in the round 16 of the continental showpiece, with both teams seeking for qualification.
Ahead of the clash, the enterprising attacking midfielder has expressed optimism about his outfit chances.
Algerian national team player Fares Chaibi said in statements reported by the Moroccan website “Al-Botola”:
“Is Congo a tough team? We are Algeria, and it is clear that we came here to bring the cup back” he said as quoted by Al-Botola.
“Perhaps we didn’t have the best draw compared to some of the other leaders, but if you want to win the title, you have to beat everyone, whether you face Congo or any other team.”
“I was very motivated in the Equatorial Guinea match to make up for what I missed. I was disappointed with myself, and I fully realize that I was not good in the first match, so I gave it my all.”
“We respected our opponent a lot and played the match very seriously, even though the Equatorial Guinea team had no hopes of qualifying for the next round,” he stressed.
“We are not the best on paper, but we are Algeria and we came here to win the title.”
“In order to win the title, we will inevitably face the best teams, and this does not scare us. We will take the matches one by one.”
Algeria qualified for the last 16 after 3 wins and topping Group E. Meanwhile, the Congo national team finished second in Group D behind Senegal on goal difference.
