Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has expressed deep sadness following the death of his former coach, French tactician Rolland Courbis, just days before the Atlas Lions’ semi-final clash with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Courbis passed away on Monday morning at the age of 72, prompting tributes from across the football world. The former French coach had worked with Regragui during his playing days at Ajaccio in the early 2000s, a period that left a lasting impression on the Moroccan coach.
Regragui took to his personal and official Instagram account to pay tribute to his former mentor.
“Thank you for everything, boss, we will miss you,” Regragui said.
The message of condolence comes just two days before Morocco face Nigeria in a high-stakes AFCON semi-final, as Regragui and his players continue preparations for the crucial encounter amid the emotional moment.
Amid the grief, Regragui is expected to marshal his Atlas Lions to put up a performance that will see them overcoming Nigeria to reach the AFCON final.
