The head coach of Algeria, Vladimir Petkovic, shared his excitement on Wednesday afternoon, after guiding his side to thump Sudan 3-0 in their opening match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking in his post-match interview, Petkovic acknowledged the good performance of the opponent, but stressed that his side was dominant throughout the contest en route to picking all three points.
“Congratulations to the opponent, who resisted and tried to play football. We entered the competition with a certain rhythm, with qualification in mind. We had some difficulties, but overall we dominated the match, especially after the sending-off. This is the logical consequence of the performance delivered by the team,” the Algeria coach argued.
Vladimir Petkovic added, “We weren’t perfect, but we’ll have to raise our level in the next match. The three points are important; now we need to recover well for what’s to come. I never question my players after a few difficult minutes or because of unjustified criticism.”
After winning their AFCON 2025 opening match against Sudan, Algeria must now turn attention to their next match against Burkina Faso on Sunday, December 28.
