AFCON 2025: Udinese confirms release date of Nigeria Keeper Maduka Okoye for tournament
Udinese head coach Kosta Runjaić has confirmed Nigeria goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye will be released for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, seven days before its commencement.
Okoye, who has impressed since returning from a betting suspension, has been named in the Super Eagles 54-man provisional squad for the tournament.
Per FIFA directives, clubs are allowed to keep players set to participate in the AFCON tournament until December 15.
However, Kosta Runjaić has disclosed the side will release the Nigeria goalkeeper right after their game against Napoli, scheduled for December 14, 2025.
Okoye has delivered strong performances this season, keeping two clean sheets and saving a penalty in seven league games. His absence will be a major blow to Udinese as they push for European qualification.
The 35th edition of the continental showpiece has been scheduled to take place in the North African country between December 2025 and January 2026, with 24 nations set to battle for the covetous trophy.
