At the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, one fan has captured attention far beyond the pitch.
Michel Koka Mboladinga, a devoted supporter of the Democratic Republic of Congo, has become a viral sensation for his unique tribute to independence leader Patrice Lumumba.

Koka attends every DR Congo match—whether in Rabat or Tangier—and remains perfectly still throughout the game. Dressed in a sharp suit, glasses, and neatly styled hair, he raises his arm in the same pose as Lumumba’s iconic statue in Kinshasa.
For the full 90 minutes, and often through stoppage time, he stands as a “living monument” to the man who led Congo to independence and became a symbol of Africa’s fight against colonialism.
Born in 1925 and assassinated in 1961, Lumumba served as Congo’s first prime minister and remains a powerful emblem of dignity and freedom.
By recreating Lumumba’s image in stadiums, Koka aims to keep that legacy alive, turning terraces into stages for history. His striking presence has drawn the attention of broadcasters and photographers, often rivaling the players in coverage.
Speaking to SNRT, Koka said his goal is to remind fans of Lumumba’s values while honoring his memory in front of thousands.
He also praised the warmth and hospitality of Moroccan cities, highlighting the respect shown to Congolese supporters.
As DR Congo advanced from the group stage, Koka’s silent tribute has become a symbol of resilience and pride.
His dedication demonstrates that football is not just about goals and victories—it can also celebrate identity, memory, and shared culture.
