Equatorial Guinea coach Juan Micha admitted his frustration after watching his side fall 3-1 to a ruthless Algeria in their final Group E match at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.
Algeria raced into a three-goal lead inside 32 minutes, leaving Micha’s team chasing shadows for most of the first half.
“The result is not what we had planned for. We came here to win but it was not the case. We really tried to push and change the result. It is a disappointing result, but we need to dust ourselves off and continue looking towards the future. Yes, it’s a loss but I think there were a lot of lessons learnt.” His words summed up a campaign that ended without a single point after three group matches, despite moments of spirit from his players.
After the break, Equatorial Guinea showed more character, pulling one goal back through Emilio Nsue early in the second half to briefly threaten a comeback. But Algeria, already in control thanks to strikes from Zineddine Belaïd, Fares Chaïbi and Ibrahim Maza, managed the game calmly and secured top spot in the group with a perfect record.
For Micha, the focus now turns to rebuilding confidence and turning “lessons learnt” into progress for future competitions.
