The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, has confirmed that all outstanding financial entitlements for Super Eagles players and officials have been fully resolved.
The announcement comes after the team threatened to suspend training ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarterfinal against Algeria over unpaid winning bonuses.
As revealed by AfricaSoccer.com on Wednesday, January 7, the players had skipped Wednesday’s session and signalled they might continue the boycott until the matter was addressed.
The Super Eagles are set to depart for Marrakesh today in preparation for Saturday’s quarterfinal clash at Ouahat Sidi Brahim Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 16:00 GMT.
This is not the first time Nigeria’s squad has staged a protest over delayed payments. A similar situation arose ahead of last year’s CAF World Cup play-offs when players and officials boycotted training over unsettled entitlements.
On the field, Nigeria have enjoyed a flawless AFCON campaign, securing nine points in the group stage with victories over Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda.
Their dominance continued in the Round of 16 with a commanding 4–0 win against Mozambique, earning them a spot in the quarter-finals and reinforcing their status as tournament contenders.
