South Africa legend Teko Modise has blamed coach Hugo Broos for the Bafana Bafana elimination from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The Bafana Bafana painfully excited the continental showpiece on Sunday night after falling short to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 2-1 in the round of 16 clash.
Junior Tchamadeu and Christian Kofane scored in the first half for the Indomitable Lions, while Evidence Makgopa scored to reduce the deficit for the Bafana Bafana in a high-stake clash.
And the former Bafana midfield general is scathing in his assessment of the national team’s display in Morocco.
“Cameroon score on the 46th and 47th minute, your first changes are at 62 minutes, and you are still playing with five at the back, and you are just against one striker,” he told SuperSport TV while analysing the 2-1 loss to Cameroon which knocked Bafana out of the 35th edition of the continental spectacle.
“I think there was no sense of urgency from the bench, after conceding that second goal, that’s when you are supposed to make those changes.
“Those changes, yes, later on they became profitable, but imagine if he had done them earlier, because now you are 2-0 down. This is a knockout phase; it’s not the group stages anymore.
“Now you are in the knockout phase, you are conceding with five at the back, you take out Nkosinathi Sibisi late in the game when you still have five at the back.”
Having being eliminated from the AFCON, the Bafana Bafana will turn their attention to the 2026 World Cup tournament to be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
