Bettors who backed Morocco to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are now receiving their payouts following a controversial decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

On 17 March, CAF officially recognized Morocco as the tournament’s champions, overturning Senegal’s 1-0 victory in the final on 18 January.

The reversal came after Morocco argued that the match should have ended when several Senegal players temporarily walked off the pitch in protest.

CAF’s Disciplinary Committee initially rejected Morocco’s appeal, but the CAF Appeal Board later ruled that Senegal had forfeited the match, awarding Morocco a 3-0 win by default.

The ruling raised immediate questions about betting payouts. World Sports Betting confirmed on Wednesday that customers who backed Morocco would be paid, with Sky Bet following suit.

Senegal, however, has indicated it will challenge the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The team has a 10-day window to file its appeal, and CAF’s ruling will remain suspended until CAS delivers a verdict—a process that could take up to six months. The case continues to stir debate across the football world.
